Set against the rugged coastline of Piha and designed by Chris Tate Architecture, the award-winning Bunker House doesn’t just push the boundaries of architectural form—it redefines the future of intelligent living. In harmony with its minimalist, monolithic exterior and sharply composed interiors, the home’s integrated automation system blends invisibly into the space while delivering powerful performance and control.
This custom-built automation system reflects the same precision and innovation as the Bunker House itself—quietly intelligent, elegantly restrained, and always one step ahead.
Discreet Entry, Secure Living – Access to the home is provided via a discreet and compact backlit touchpad on the outside that blends into the homes exterior. As the only door to the home a hidden key override has also been provisioned. Inside, touching a discrete brass section of the wall releases the door and this is backed up by a glass-break emergency release hidden nearby.
A backup battery ensures uninterrupted functionality, even in power troubled Piha, reinforcing the bunker-like security of the home.
Lighting and Automation Without Compromise – Lighting and control throughout the home is powered by a Vantage automation system, featuring the EQ73 touchscreen controller hidden away in the equipment rack—preserving the home’s strikingly clean lines with no obvious keypads. Control is predominantly managed through the mobile app and discrete Basalte keypads.
- Dimmable LED strip lighting traces key architectural elements, adding depth and subtle drama at night.
- Outdoor lighting is motion-triggered via discreet point-to-point Infrared Laser beams, offering both security and functionality.
- Inside, Basalte Sentido glass touch keypads in brushed black serve as the elegant face of the system, effortlessly blending into the home’s refined interior aesthetic.
