Paerata Perfection - Secure and Stylish

This full-featured home automation project enhances the already stunning architecturally designed space.

This beautiful new home located close to the small, rural settlement of Paerata, south of Auckland delivers simplicity and remote control for the family.

Security was high on the priority list for the client due to the somewhat remote location.  The security systems were customised to include roller door sensors on the garage door, the ability to arm selected areas separately, external sirens and strobe lights to alert neighbours and assist responders.  The security system can also be controlled from a remote location via a mobile phone app and is remotely monitored.  Any activations send a push notification to the client’s device.

The front gate, garage door and alarm system can be controlled with a remote control, and the remote control also doubles as a panic button that can be used to activate sirens and contact monitoring responders.

Surveillance cameras have been placed in key locations around the exterior of the home, and a video intercom has been installed at the gate.

But the robust security systems are not the only feature of this home.  The lighting control and home automation is managed by Crestron Home, with a simple, customisable user interface, which can be accessed via on-wall touchscreens, smart-phones and tablets, as well as on-wall keypads, in place of traditional light switches.  The Crestron system gives full control over multi-room audio, TVs, motorised windows and blinds, fans, alarm, and vehicle gate – not just lights.  Crestron Home also gives the client the ability to control all systems remotely, so they can turn on the lights to their favourite level of illumination and prepare the home for their arrival.

The beauty of a control system such as Crestron Home enables the home to be programmed to perfectly match the client’s lifestyle. We have created several personalised functions, for example, sensors in the ensuite action a dim glow when someone enters the room at night and a modified “away” scene to suit the client’s way of life.

Whole-home audio was important to the client, and in addition to the usual areas where you would expect to enjoy music (kitchen, lounge, and dining rooms), we also installed speakers in the sheltered BBQ area, master bedroom and ensuite.  The multi-room audio amplifier paired with a high-resolution music streamer gives integration to streaming services, as well as internal storage for 10,000 of the client’s songs.

Another “must-have” for the client was a strong, uninterrupted Wi-Fi, and so we installed a Wi-Fi mesh network system with a fibre link for the most reliable and fastest possible internet connection.

An equipment rack houses the equipment, such as amps, switches, control equipment and patch panels.  And because power in rural locations can be somewhat unstable, we installed power conditioning to provide protection and longevity for the delicate electronic equipment.
