Does IoT mean “Internet of Things”… or “Isolated or Tangled”?

As DIY home automation becomes more common, so do the calls for help – homeowners struggling with devices that don’t talk to each other or systems that fail, leaving them frustrated and stuck.

In the past few weeks, we’ve spoken to several homeowners who’ve hit a snag – caught between systems that don’t connect, or left stranded by disappearing installers.

One homeowner in Remuera had an electrician install a “smart system” using Apple HomeKit, a Chinese alarm, and an unbranded camera setup. Nothing talked to each other – and the electrician stopped answering his phone.
Another paid for a “full automation system,” but the company vanished, leaving him with disconnected cameras, broken audio, and a dead intercom.

Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon (GAFA) devices – lights, thermostats, speakers, cameras – do their individual jobs well. The challenge? Getting them to actually work together.

IoT: Isolated or Tangled

When automation’s done right, it’s incredible – simplifying your life in ways you’ll wonder how you ever lived without. But it has to be done right.

Before you invest, ask your provider for recent references. Or, if you’d rather skip the hassle and get it done properly from the start, give us a call – we’ll get you sorted.

Creating convenience with smart devices isn’t about buying the latest gadgets. It’s about understanding what you really need, and integrating systems that make sense for how you actually live.

Sometimes the smartest solution is having someone who can make it all just work.
True smart homes aren’t a tangle of IoT – they’re IaC: Integrated and Connected.
