Sampitres Superyacht

A striking wave-piercing catamaran built for long-range cruising and luxury charter.

At 25.3 metres (83 feet), Sampitres is a striking wave-piercing catamaran designed by Auckland-based naval architects LOMOcean / Craig Loomes Design Group and built by Vaudrey Miller. She quickly gained international recognition, reaching the finals of the Superyacht Awards. Purpose-built for both long-range cruising and luxury charter, Sampitres combines innovative design with New Zealand boatbuilding pedigree.

Our team was tasked with delivering a seamless control system that would simplify onboard living while enhancing comfort and entertainment. The solution brought together multiple systems under a single Vantage automation platform, including:

  • Climate management (air conditioning)
  • Fibre optic lighting and scene setting
  • Motorised blinds for privacy and light control
  • Full AV integration: cinema, distributed audio, and displays

Benefits of Vantage on Boats.

On several occasions the Vaudrey build team were able to meet client change requests by repositioning Vantage keypads in areas where keypads would have been too deep for the slim wall cavities. The flexible wiring topology of the Vantage system made it possible to incorporate these late additions without the long lead times normally required by other control platforms.

Architect, builder and client alike valued the ability to fine-tune keypad and touchscreen functions on demand, without rewiring — a rare advantage in the tightly constrained environment of a superyacht.

Control Experience
Guests interact with the system through intuitive keypads and touchscreens positioned throughout the yacht. From any location, they can adjust:

  • Temperature and airflow
  • Lighting brightness, colour, and ambience
  • Music playlists, volume, and distribution
  • Video sources and display settings

The interface also supports pre-programmed “mood” presets, making it easy to shift from relaxed cruising to movie night or hosting mode with a single command.

A night mode was created on the bridge using dim red lights to allow the Captain visibility of the control surfaces while retaining night vision of his surroundings.

Commissioning Challenge
During sea trials an unusual issue appeared: the cabin lights flickered whenever the anchor windlass operated on offshore power. Working with Vantage’s engineering team in Utah, we resolved it by adjusting the SCR trigger point timing in the Design Centre software, shifting it away from the zero-crossing. This fine phase-angle adjustment eliminated the flicker and delivered stable, reliable lighting even under heavy electrical load.

Outcome
The result is a tightly integrated, highly reliable automation system that elevates the luxury experience aboard Sampitres. This project demonstrates how thoughtful engineering and system design can enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of a superyacht environment.
